The glam effect of Angelina Jolie

Filming "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider" in 2001 in a war-torn Combodia had an huge effect on Jolie, opened her eyes, and gave her a greater understanding of the world. When she came home from filming she contacted the Untied Nations Hugh Commissioner for Refugees for information on international trouble spots. She wanted to learn more, so she began visiting refugee camps around the world.

Jolie returned to Comodia a few months later, where she stayed for two weeks, and met with Afghan refugees in Pakistan. She donated $1 million in response to an international UNHCR emergency appeal, the largest donation ever donated to UNHCR by a privat individual.

I think Jolie is doing an incredible job in raising awareness around the different situations we have in the world today. She has helped the world in many ways! Her partner Brad Pitt has also helped, and they have together started a foundation, called Jolie-Pitt Foundation.
They are inspiration to others!

The glam effect - Shakira

We all know about the global warming and about starving children, but without doing anything. Many famous people go forward as good examples when they choose to use money and time to help. Because of their status, people will notice their actions and maybe follow the same direction?

The famous singer Shakira is one of these famous people who choose to give her time and money to people who need them more than herself. Shakira has founded among others the Barefoot Foundation and ALAS.

Shakira founded the Barefoot Foundation in 1997, with the aim of helping poor and impoverished children. It provides education and nutrition to over six thousand children in Colombia and the Foundation is also expanding to other countries like Haiti.

She also founded foundation ALAS in 2006. ALAS focuses on early childhood and pregnancy, and is based in Panama.

Shakira has been appointed higher titles, among other things, she was named a member of President Obama’s Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanics. In addition, she is currently a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.

She don’t just found organizations, she knows just what to do to make a great day for a poor kid. The artist donated 10,000 pairs of tennis shoes to poor kids in her hometown. The donation of ten thousand shoes is a quite small donation compared to other examples. Shakira donated $45 million to charity in 2007 (http://www.nme.com/news/shakira/31456)

She believes in the glam effect, just look at her quote from UNICEF’s website:

“I believe that I have to use the resources provided by my artistic career in order to tell people about real problems in the real world, and I know that I have to contribute to the search for real solutions. I’m sure that our planet will be a better place if each one of us will take responsibility for the needs of others.”

The Glam Effect

Many famous people in the world are helping people and the society in situations like global warming, bad health care, hunger and poverty. They spend their spare time at things that are a problem in the world, and try to make a different, and to make a fairer world. However, does it helps the causes they support?

The international soccer player Davis Beckham is one of many stars who supports UNICEF, one of the biggest helping organization in the world. Since 2005 has he given a helping hand to people who live in poverty and misery. He is a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador with especially focus at sport for the children.
He has traveled to different kinds of countries in both Africa and Asia, to look at the work UNICEF do and watch the situation with the real eye. In 2008, he went to Sierra Leone with a team from UNICEF where they focused on the child's experience, with the high death rate in their mind and how the deaths could be prevented. He also travelled to South Africa to see the work with children and families who live with HIV and Aids.

Several times, he has been in Filippinene. Children over there are poor and weak because of the Typhoon Haiyan. He met the children, and saw how UNICEF supported them with health care, counseling and safe places to play and learn.

I think it is a good thing that stars involve themselves in work to help people in need. They try to make a different, and they do. Several famous people, for example Shakira, Madonna, Angelina Jolie and Alicia Keys, try to making a difference, to donate money or do volunteer work. They are also inspiring other people in the world to participate and help people who really need it with their status. When people hear about what there are doing, they want to do the same, and follow the star´s footstep.

CNN

The Cable News Network, CNN, is an American news company, which gives news to people all around the world. They also retrieves news from the whole world, which says that they need to have a lot of reporters, who catch up the information. Together, ca. 900 reporters stay in different parts of the world. Maybe this is the reason why the company has become so large. When they get information and news from several countries, more people will like to watch their news.

Ted Turner founded the company in 1980, and it was the first tv-channel to give the people 24 hours news coverage, and the first news channel in the USA, which gave the people news about everything. Later the channel has evolved more and more.

CNN consists of many different channels. They deliver the latest news about the weather, politics, business, entertainment, the latest stories and more. The American version sends most of their programs from New York and Washington, D.C., but they has also an international channel. This is most known outside USA, and was established in 1985. The channel was available in Norway in 1989. CNN International quickly became one of the world's largest news channels.

BBC

BBC is the world's leading public service brodcaster. It was founded 18 October 1922, and today BBC has over 23, 000 staff members. It has grown to become the largest brodcaster in the world by number of employees. BBC started out as a radio brodcasting, but soon extend over to TV and online service. They have throughout the years gone from just covering the UK, to cover worldwide.
BBC both have a mission and a vision that they want to achieve. Their mission is to enrich people's lives with programmes and services that inform, educate and entertain, and their vision is to be the most creative organisation in the world.
The thing I like most about BBC is that they have a thing on their YouTube channel called "BBC live lounge", where they invite different artist to come and sing acoustic, and do a cover of a song by another artist that they like. The reason why I like this so much is that I like to hear artist do new renditions of already known songs.

Who are we???

Hi there, welcome to our blog! We are going to use this blog every week, because we are soooo exited about blogging. We will blog about everything from A to Z, and have great pictures in every post. We hope you will follow our blog through this journey, and comment if you like!
Now were going to have a small presentation of the three members: Karoline, Kristin and Jørgen.

Karoline is a sporty girl, from Brumunddal. She lives in a small house with her father, mother, sister and a fat cat with a smashed nose. She likes to work out at Fønix, and this is something she does over four times a week. At her spare time she likes to hang out with friends, and she also works at Scandic Ringsaker as a waitress and housekeeper. In the winter season she enjoy watching handball and cross county skiing. She loves to travel, and her dream is to go on a backpacker-trip to see the whole world.

Kristin is a creative girl from Brumunddal, but she mainly lives in Veldre on a small farm. Some mornings she takes care of the ten sheep on the farm, and this is something that she enjoys. Her boyfriend's family runs the farm, and she loves to help. Kristin drives a blue, ugly scooter around everywhere and loves the wind in her hair. On her free time she sometimes get out of the sofa and at the gym, usually not more than three times a year. In every second weekend she works at McDonalds with her friends and earn a lot of money to buy candy for the sheep (and food and clothes too)

The last one of the members is Jørgen. He is a funny guy with a lot of energy. He works at McDonalds so he can support Kristin, so she can buy candy for the sheep. He's not, but he likes working at McDonalds because it is a social working environment and also he makes a lot of money so he can buy himself food in the canteen. He likes to sing, and was a participant in Idol this year, where he made it to top 55.
